Washington D.C. – September 15, 2018-Inside Arabia announced today that it is launching #SaveYemen, a massive, public awareness campaign in New York City designed to call attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
Inside Arabia’s #SaveYemen campaign comes on the eve of the United Nations General Assembly session that starts on Tuesday in New York City. The campaign demands that the UN act to stop the war in Yemen, where tens of thousands of Yemeni civilians are being slaughtered and millions are at risk of starving to death or dying of preventable diseases. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called it the “world’s worst humanitarian crisis.”
“#SaveYemen is a public awareness campaign funded solely by Inside Arabia,” said Elisabeth Myers, Editor-in-Chief of Inside Arabia. “It calls upon the UN to act to halt the devastation and bloodshed that has been ravaging human lives in Yemen for too long.”
Beginning today the people of New York City will see displayed all over the city an image of a Yemeni child with a tear in her eye. The image is designed to demonstrate the injustice and inhumanity of this war in Yemen perpetrated and perpetuated by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with the support of the United States. Coalition airstrikes against hospitals, schools, buses full of children, and other civilian areas have killed more than 16,700 people, including at least 6,500 civilians, according to a UN report issued August 28, which accuses all parties to the conflict of “war crimes.”
“The total blockade has prevented food, water, and medicines from entering the country resulting in one of the most devastating situations imaginable,” said Myers. “Nearly 22 million people are on the brink of starvation right now. People are dying of preventable diseases, like measles, that Yemen has not seen in decades.”
“The stark image of a crying child will be displayed along with the horrifying facts on buses, video wall trucks, video kiosks, and elsewhere for all New Yorkers and participants at the UN General Assembly to see,” said Myers. “This project is the brainchild of our President and CEO, Saeb Sakkijha, to bring awareness to stop this hidden war,” she added.
