Kenya and Ghana make history as the first African countries to deposit the instruments of ratification of the African Continental Free Trade Area, bringing the continent closer to the realization of a common African market. Once a minimum of 20 additional instruments of ratification are deposited, the African Continental Free Trade Area will become operational. We are optimistic other states will complete the ratification process before the end of 2018.
The establishment of the African Continental Free Trade Area will result in a unified market of over 1.2 billion people with a combined gross product of over US$3 trillion, making Africa one of the world’s largest trading blocs.
