Group photograph of ministers, officials and Representatives Cotonou, 8th December 2018. Ministers in charge of Science Technology and Innovation (STI) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have backed the call for mobilization of resources in aid of the sector.
The Ministers gave their endorsement at the 3rd meeting of the ECOWAS Ministers of STI which held on the 8th of December in Cotonou, Republic of Benin.
In this regard, they maintained that the implementation of the plans of action has become imperative in order for STI to take its pride of place in regional development.
Declaring the meeting open, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Benin, Professor Marie Odile Attanasso noted that the time has come for the engagement of STI for the structural transformation of the economies of the region.

Addressing delegates and participants at the opening of the meeting, the ECOWAS Commission’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Culture, Professor Leopoldo Amado stated that in making practical commitment to integration and development, within the purview of its vision 2020, the Commission is in the vanguard of the construction of an economic, monetary and commercial union.
Through the right steps in STI, the Commission will also strengthen regional security, consolidate peace and democracy, promote sustainable development and engender poverty reduction.
